What inspectors found
CQC: Requires improvementReport published 20 January 2023 · Last inspected 2 December 2022
Whitestones is a single-storey residential home for up to 41 people with physical disability, sensory impairment, dementia or mental health needs, and 21 people were living there at the visit. Inspectors judged staffing adequate, found recruitment checks were carried out, and said people were protected from abuse, with their choices respected and decisions made in their best interests. Medicines management and planning for end-of-life wishes were less consistent, and the home remains rated requires improvement after the provider was found to still be in breach of regulations.
- Staffing was judged adequate for the number of people living in the home.
- Checks on staff suitability were made before they started work.
- Staff understood their safeguarding responsibilities, and referrals were made where needed.
- Infection risks were managed, and visiting was permitted where appropriate.
- Some medicines were not managed safely, including gaps in guidance for medicines given when needed and incomplete records of why they were given.
- Conversations about how people wished to be cared for at the end of their lives had not always taken place.
- Complaints were not always reviewed to identify lessons to learn.
