Nursing homes
Nursing homes provide everything a residential home does, plus registered nurses on site 24 hours a day — for people with ongoing or complex health needs.
What is nursing homes?
A nursing home has qualified nurses on duty around the clock, alongside care staff, so it can support ongoing medical conditions, complex needs and changing health.
Because of the extra staffing, nursing homes cost more than residential care — but NHS Funded Nursing Care can help toward the nursing element.
Who it's for
- People with a health condition needing regular nursing
- Those with complex, unpredictable or advancing needs
- Anyone whose needs have grown beyond residential care
What it costs
In 2026, nursing care averages around £1,535 a week for a self-funder. If registered nursing is needed, NHS Funded Nursing Care (£219.71 a week) is paid toward the fee.
