About these terms
askbart.org (“AskBart”, “we”, “us”) is a free directory of care homes, retirement living and home care services in the UK. These terms cover your use of the website. How we handle personal information is explained in our privacy policy, and how we are paid is explained in our affiliate disclosure.
Using the site
You may use AskBart for your own personal, non-commercial purposes, such as researching care for yourself or a family member. You may share links to any page and quote short extracts with a link back to the source page.
Our information is not professional advice
We work hard to keep our listings and guides accurate (see our editorial policy and data sources), but information can change and some of it comes from third parties such as providers and regulators. Always check details directly with a provider before making a decision. Nothing on AskBart is legal, financial or medical advice.
Our content and database rights
The AskBart website and its content are protected by copyright and database right, including under the Copyright and Rights in Databases Regulations 1997. That content includes our listings, descriptions, reviews, ratings, photos, guides, data studies and the way our directory is compiled and organised. Except where these terms allow it, or where we have agreed otherwise in writing, it belongs to us or our licensors. Some information, such as Care Quality Commission ratings, comes from public sources and stays subject to those sources’ own terms.
Automated access and scraping
Unless we have given you written permission, you must not:
- use any robot, spider, scraper, crawler, script or other automated means to access, copy, download or extract content or data from AskBart;
- systematically extract or re-use all or a substantial part of our directory, reviews, photos or data, or repeatedly extract smaller parts of them;
- republish, sell, license or otherwise make our content or data available to others, or use it to build or improve a competing directory, database or service;
- get around or interfere with any measure we use to limit or monitor access, including rate limits, bot checks and the rules in our robots.txt file;
- hide or misrepresent who you are or what software you are using in order to access the site;
- hotlink to or embed our images or other files on another website or service, or remove watermarks, copyright notices or other identifying marks from them.
Search engines and AI assistants. We welcome search engines and AI answer services that identify themselves honestly and follow our robots.txt file, so that people can find AskBart. That permission covers indexing our pages and showing short extracts that link back to us. It does not cover any of the uses listed above.
If you would like to use our data commercially, please get in touch. We may block, limit or challenge any access that we reasonably believe breaks these terms, and we may take legal action to protect our rights.
Reviews, photos and other things you send us
When you send us a review, photo, correction or other content, you confirm that it is accurate and yours to share. You also give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to publish, edit, adapt and display it on AskBart and in our marketing. We may decline or remove anything that we believe is inaccurate, unlawful or unfair.
Links to other websites
We link to providers, regulators and partners. We are not responsible for their websites or services, and a link does not mean we endorse them.
Our liability
AskBart is provided free of charge and “as is”. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss caused by relying on information on the site or by the site being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and the version on this page is the one that applies.
Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you have any questions, please contact us or email info@askbart.org.
