About
Shaws Wood Residential Care Home is a 39-bed home in Strood, Medway, Kent, providing residential and dementia care for older people and for younger adults under 65. It was set up by MDJ Homes, which began in 2010 with the aim of caring for older people in the community. The founders' motivation came partly from family experience of caring for relatives with dementia, and the operator says it wants residents and their families to feel that care comes first, including attention to physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Shaws Wood is the first home the company has opened, and it is intended to support frail older people and people living with dementia.
The Care Quality Commission rated the home Requires Improvement overall in its 2025 report. Within that assessment, it was rated Good for being effective, caring and responsive, and Requires Improvement for being safe and well-led.
