About

The Aelred Wing is the residential and respite care wing of St Hilda's Priory, an Anglican religious community on the edge of Whitby in North Yorkshire. The Sisters founded the community in 1915. The wing has 12 registered beds, each in an individual room with its own wet room, on the ground floor of the Priory. Four rooms are reserved for short respite stays of up to four weeks, including for people from outside the community.

Residents may join the community for prayer and the eucharist in the chapel, led by the chaplain, and care is provided within a Christian framework. There are no organised activities, as the community's religious life comes first, but residents can go directly into the gardens and grounds. Meals and 24-hour care are included. The Care Quality Commission rated the home Good overall in 2022, with Good for safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
