What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 31 July 2023 · Last inspected 26 June 2023

Promenade Care Home, in Southport town centre, supports older people and people living with dementia. Inspectors found that people and their relatives felt the home was safe and clean, and that staff knew people well and noticed changes in health quickly. The report also found shortfalls in risk assessment, incident and safeguarding records, medicines and food and drink recording, and the provider and manager took prompt action to address them.

Strengths noted
  • People and relatives said they felt the home was safe and that the environment was clean and hygienic.
  • Staffing levels were judged sufficient, and staff were recruited safely, inducted and completed mandatory training.
  • Staff were described as skilled, knowing people well, and quick to pick up on changes in health.
  • The registered manager was seen as approachable and visible, and staff said they felt respected and supported.
Areas to improve
  • Risk assessments were missing or not detailed enough to guide staff, which increased the risk of harm to people.
  • Some accident and incident records were poorly completed, safeguarding incidents were not always investigated or referred, and monitoring systems missed these shortfalls.
  • Medicines records were not always completed to best practice standards, and food and drink records did not always reflect people's needs.
