What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 7 August 2023 · Last inspected 12 June 2023

Inspectors found that medicines were not always handled safely, and that risk management, recording and governance needed improvement, which led to a drop from good to requires improvement. Care plans lacked detail on communication and on supporting a person who became distressed, and some staff needed more knowledge to reposition people safely. People and relatives nonetheless spoke highly of the care, and staff said they felt valued and well supported.

Strengths noted
  • People and relatives described the care as safe and very good
  • The registered manager was open and transparent and acted quickly on concerns
  • Staff felt valued, supported and passionate about their roles
  • Health professionals spoke positively about responsiveness, and end-of-life care was well coordinated
Areas to improve
  • Medicines records, topical medicine administration and medicine disposal were not always handled safely
  • Care plans lacked detail on communication needs and on managing distress, and were not available in alternative formats
  • Governance systems did not identify most issues, and earlier action on staff recording did not fully work
