What inspectors found

CQC: Good

Report published 7 July 2022 · Last inspected 1 June 2022

Inspectors found Avon Park Residential Home, a two-storey purpose-built home for up to 28 older and younger adults, including some in the early stages of dementia, to be good overall. Staff were described as kind, caring and familiar with people's backgrounds, and people were involved in decisions about their care and given support with communication. Activities were on offer, though some people preferred quiet time in their rooms with staff.

Strengths noted
  • Staff were trained in safeguarding and had regular supervision, and the premises were described as very clean with extra cleaning of frequently touched surfaces.
  • Risks were assessed and equipment and systems were regularly checked, and medicines were managed safely with staff competency checks.
  • Care plans were drawn up with people before admission and reviewed monthly, and people were supported to make their own choices.
  • The registered manager and nominated individual were visible in the service, had an open-door approach and regularly sought feedback from people and relatives.
Areas to improve
  • Inspectors made a recommendation that training for catering staff be reviewed to cover best practice for preparing specialist diets, and people mostly, rather than always, enjoyed their meals.
