About

Aucklands Care is a family-run residential home in Southbourne, Bournemouth. It has 10 registered beds and provides residential and dementia care, with support also available for people living with mental health conditions. Care is provided around the clock, every day of the week.

The Hart family has owned the home for over 30 years. It was originally called Auckland's Rest Home, and Lynn Hart, her husband Dave and their children Jonathan and Elizabeth are involved in running it, with Lynn and Dave still actively involved. The home was the only one to secure a block booked contract with Bournemouth Borough Council for assessment and enablement beds.

The Care Quality Commission rates Aucklands Care Outstanding overall (2023 report), with Good for safe, responsive and well-led care and Outstanding for effective and caring care.

What inspectors found

CQC: Outstanding

Report published 12 December 2023 · Last inspected 17 October 2023

Inspectors visited Aucklands Care, a residential home for up to 10 people, in October 2023, and rated it outstanding overall. They found that people were kept safe and supported to make their own choices, pursue interests and leave the building, with staffing adjusted to make this possible. Staff were described as caring and were said to understand people's communication needs and how to recognise and report abuse.

Strengths noted
  • Staff supported people to make choices and stay independent, including adjusting staffing so people could go out into the community when they wished
  • Staff understood individual communication needs and helped people understand information given to them
  • Staff were trained to recognise and report abuse, and the service worked with other agencies to protect people
  • People and their families were involved in care planning, and the provider sought and acted on their views
