What inspectors found
CQC: GoodReport published 9 November 2022 · Last inspected 18 October 2022
Inspectors describe Willow Park as a large nursing home with specialist dementia and complex-care floors, where people and relatives spoke warmly about the staff and manager. Staff were trained in safeguarding, sufficient numbers were on duty, and people were given choice and involvement in their care, with activities and feedback surveys in place to reduce isolation. The management team was new and was working quickly to improve the service.
- People and relatives spoke positively about the care from staff and the manager
- Staff were trained and knowledgeable about safeguarding, and risks were assessed with advice from relevant professionals
- Staff were caring, respected dignity, sought consent, and supported people's choice and independence
- Activities were described positively, with feedback surveys used to guard against social isolation
- Medicines were not always managed safely, and governance and record-keeping gaps meant people were at risk, although the provider addressed record keeping during the inspection and inspectors found no evidence of harm
- Inspectors recommended the provider embed its quality assurance processes for medicines and continue strengthening governance around record keeping
- Inspectors noted the manager was seeking further training in infection prevention and control and dementia care beyond mandatory training
