What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 5 October 2023 · Last inspected 29 August 2023

Inspectors found that staff knew people well, responded to individual needs and respected people's choices, and that people could personalise their rooms and take part in activities. Staff felt supported by the manager and deputy manager, and the service apologised when things went wrong. The service remains rated Requires Improvement, its second consecutive rating at that level, with inspectors identifying concerns about restraint, risk, safeguarding and quality assurance.

Strengths noted
  • Day-to-day support was described as caring and tailored to each person's needs.
  • People were supported to take part in activities and to make their rooms their own.
  • Medicines support was judged to help people achieve good health outcomes.
  • Staff said they felt respected and supported by the management team, and there were enough staff to meet people's needs and keep them safe.
Areas to improve
  • Staff did not do everything possible to avoid restraining people, and there was little evidence that the provider learned from restraint incidents.
  • Breaches were found in risk management, safeguarding and quality assurance, and improvements are required in these areas.
  • The skill mix of staff needs to be more appropriate, reliance on agency staff needs to be reduced, and training and induction need attention.
