What inspectors found

CQC: Good

Report published 29 March 2023 · Last inspected 2 March 2023

Whitecliff Care Home is a nursing home for up to 28 older people, most of whom live with dementia, and 22 people were using it at the time of inspection. Inspectors found care was tailored to each person, with staff who knew people well and treated them with kindness, respect and patience during personal care and meals. Relatives and a professional were positive about the support and the homely feel of the service.

Strengths noted
  • Care is person-centred, and people are supported to stay as independent as possible without compromising their safety.
  • Inspectors saw many kind interactions between people and staff, and staff gave people the time they needed.
  • People, relatives and staff have regular chances to give feedback, and the registered manager and wider management team are well regarded.
  • The registered manager has built good working relationships with other health and social care professionals, leading to timely referrals and positive outcomes for people.
Areas to improve
  • Staff had not received training on supporting people with learning disabilities. The registered manager responded by enrolling all staff on this training.
  • Some mental capacity assessments did not relate to specific decisions, and some best interest records were incomplete for people sharing rooms.
  • The service's auditing had not identified the training gap or the assessment issues. Improvements were under way, but they needed time to be completed and embedded.
