What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 3 March 2023 · Last inspected 23 January 2023

Inspectors visited The Avenues Care Centre, a 62-bed residential home for older people and people living with dementia, when 53 people were living there. People and relatives said they felt safe, but inspectors found that risks were not always identified or planned for, and that some people had no care plan at all. Medicines were not always managed safely, and staffing levels at times delayed people receiving their medicines.

Strengths noted
  • People were supported to stay as independent as possible.
  • Decisions about care followed the least restrictive approach and people's best interests, with people supported to have choice and control.
  • The home was found to be clean, and people could receive visitors when they wished.
  • After accidents and safeguarding concerns, action was taken to keep people safe.
Areas to improve
  • Some risks to people were not identified, and care was not consistently planned to keep people safe, including for two people with no care plan.
  • Medicines were not always managed safely, so people's medicines may not have been fully effective.
  • Recruitment and staff training were not robust enough to confirm staff were suitable and skilled to meet people's needs, and there were not always enough staff on duty.
