What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 15 August 2023 · Last inspected 5 July 2023

Thameside is a residential home for up to 61 people living with physical frailty or dementia, and 49 people were living there at the visit. Families and people using the service said there were enough staff, and families described staff as engaged and considerate. Some staff, however, felt that certain areas of the home needed more colleagues.

Strengths noted
  • Individual care plans set out how to meet each person's needs in a way that centres on them.
  • Families reported that staff engage well with their relatives and treat them with kindness and dignity.
  • Staff are trained to recognise signs of abuse and to support people safely, and the provider uses a safe recruitment process.
  • Specialist diets are provided where needed, people's weight is monitored, and external health professionals are contacted in good time.
Areas to improve
  • Quality checks did not always identify risks to people's safety or environmental problems, so the governance systems did not consistently drive safe improvement.
  • Some staff felt that certain areas of the home would benefit from additional staffing.
  • Inspectors recommended that the provider review the variety of activities available to people.
