What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 5 April 2023 · Last inspected 28 February 2023

Inspectors found that people felt safe living at Swan Hill House and with the staff who support them, and that risks to people were assessed with plans in place to manage them. Views on staffing levels were mixed, although inspectors found no evidence that people were at risk of harm. Medicines management and the provider's oversight of quality and staff development were found to need improvement.

Strengths noted
  • People said they felt safe with the staff who support them, and staff were trained to recognise and report possible abuse.
  • Recruitment systems were described as helping to protect people from harm.
  • People were supported to make choices and keep control of their lives, with care given in the least restrictive way and in their best interests.
  • People and staff found the registered manager and deputy manager approachable, and the provider worked well with health and social care professionals.
Areas to improve
  • People were not fully protected from risks linked to how medicines were managed and given, although the provider acted quickly to address the issues raised.
  • The provider's audits and checks did not identify the shortfalls found at this inspection, and monitoring of staff competency was not effective.
  • Some staff said they did not receive regular supervision to discuss their role and performance.
