What inspectors found

CQC: Good

Report published 6 July 2023 · Last inspected 12 May 2023

Older people living at Sundial Lodge, a care home with individual flats and shared areas, told inspectors they felt secure and described staff as kind and respectful. Inspectors found that safeguarding systems, infection control, medicines handling and recruitment were in order, and that staffing was sufficient for the people living there. Some people felt staff were very busy and would have liked more time to sit and talk with them.

Strengths noted
  • People said they felt safe, and staff checked on them regularly.
  • Medicines were managed safely by staff who had been trained to give them.
  • Systems were in place to protect people from abuse, and people's choices and independence were respected.
  • Relatives were happy with how the home kept in touch with them.
Areas to improve
  • Oversight by the registered manager was not kept up to date, so the provider had not maintained effective governance.
  • The registered manager had recently left, and the new oversight systems had not yet had time to become established.
