What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 20 July 2023 · Last inspected 27 March 2023

Inspectors carried out a focused review of this 12-bed residential home, which supports older people, adults with dementia, learning disabilities or autism, and younger adults, and found it fully occupied. Staff were described as kind, patient and attentive to individual needs, with people helped to make choices, manage risks, stay well and take part in activities, and low staff turnover meant people were cared for by familiar staff. Inspectors found the service needs to improve its governance, record keeping and safe recruitment, which led to a drop in the overall rating from good to requires improvement.

Strengths noted
  • Staff communicated patiently and supported people's individual communication needs
  • People received kind and compassionate care that responded to their individual needs
  • People were supported to make decisions, manage positive risks and take an active role in their health and wellbeing
  • Low staff turnover meant people received consistent care from staff who knew them well
Areas to improve
  • Records for medicines, staff recruitment checks and wider service management were not always accurate or complete, and a breach of regulation was identified
  • The provider did not always follow its quality assurance policy to assess and reduce risks to people's health, safety and welfare
  • Further improvement is needed so people can pursue their interests and aspirations, and records do not always show duty of candour requirements were met
