What inspectors found
CQC: GoodReport published 21 August 2023 · Last inspected 8 August 2023
Inspectors found that Paddock Lodge, which cares for up to 24 people including some living with dementia, was providing good everyday care. The manager, who had recently started in post, was well regarded, and inspectors saw staff responding attentively to people's needs. Staff said they felt supported and took pride in their work.
- Most aspects of medicines management were well handled, and shortfalls found during the inspection were dealt with promptly.
- Risks to people were generally managed safely, and the service had ways of learning from things that went wrong.
- Recruitment checks on new staff were thorough, and staffing levels were adjusted to match people's changing needs.
- A more robust system is now in place to identify and manage risks to the quality of the service, and relatives said they felt listened to when raising concerns.
- The activities programme was limited, people said this needed to improve, and the management team said they would review their approach.
- Some actions to address potential risks from premises and equipment had not been taken promptly.
- The service's policies and systems did not always support people's choice and control, or the least restrictive approach to care.
