About

Monkstone House is a residential, dementia and respite care home with 41 registered beds in Porthcawl, Bridgend. It was founded in 1984 by the Aplin family and remains family-owned and independently run. Its registered manager, Joan Thomas, leads day-to-day operations. As a residential rather than nursing home, it works alongside local health professionals, including district nurses, when residents need community nursing support.

The mansion-style building stands on Locks Common Road, in a quiet residential area near the coast with views towards the Bristol Channel. Residents have lounges, dining rooms, quiet sitting areas and a family room. Bedrooms are spread across three floors, and some have en-suite facilities, sea views or garden views. Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and photographs. Activities include music, gentle exercise, arts and crafts and games. The Care Inspectorate Wales graded the home Good for well-being, care and support, environment, and leadership and management.
