What inspectors found
CQC: GoodReport published 16 September 2022 · Last inspected 26 July 2022
Inspectors found that Merevale House, a care home for up to 31 adults including people with mental health needs and dementia, provided good care when visited in July 2022. Staffing levels were sufficient for people to receive time and conversation, and staff understood how to raise safety concerns, manage risks, give medicines safely and follow infection control measures. Management was described as open, engaged and focused on people's needs.
- Staff were trained to give medicines and had the guidance needed to support people to manage their risks.
- Pre-employment checks were carried out on new staff, and people's health, nutrition and fluid intake were monitored with input from relatives and professionals.
- Visiting arrangements were managed safely with people and their visitors, and accidents and incidents were reviewed so lessons were learnt.
- People were supported to make choices and to have control over their lives, in the least restrictive way, and the registered manager and provider checked the quality and safety of care.
- Systems for identifying areas for improvement were not as effective as they should have been, so some improvements were not identified and made promptly.
- Improvement plans were in place for fire safety and for compliance and audits, and these were still being addressed at the time of the inspection.
