What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 10 June 2019 · Last inspected 14 May 2019

Inspectors found that people living at the home, which has room for eight, feel safe and have built warm relationships with staff, who are described as caring and respectful. Daily life includes activities people enjoy, choice and control over their routines, and support that matches their assessed needs. The service was rated as requiring improvement, with a breach of regulations linked to fire safety, record keeping and food labelling.

Strengths noted
  • People said they feel safe, and essential safety checks on water systems, hoists, gas and electricity were up to date.
  • Staff treat people with dignity and respect, and people value the relationships they have built with them.
  • People's nutritional and dietary needs were assessed and recorded, and care was provided to meet them.
  • Staff work well as a team, receive regular training, supervision and team meetings, and feel supported by senior staff.
Areas to improve
  • Fire safety arrangements needed improvement, including fire doors being propped open and gaps in measures to limit the spread of a fire.
  • Some records were not kept up to date or accurate, and food in the fridge was not always labelled once opened. Most of these issues were fixed by the second day of the inspection, and plans are in place for the rest.
  • Inspectors recommended updating medicine administration practice to reflect current best practice, and improving records of mental capacity assessments and best interest decisions.
