What inspectors found

CQC: Good

Report published 5 February 2020 · Last inspected 8 January 2020

Inspectors found that people at this home, which supports up to 24 older people, some with mental health needs, received care from trained staff who were kind and respected their independence. Personalised care plans and individual risk assessments guided daily support, and meals were freshly prepared with a range of social activities on offer. Inspectors also found shortfalls in how medicines were managed and audited, and recommended improvements to oversight.

Strengths noted
  • Staff are trained and their competence is assessed, and people say staff are kind and caring and support their independence.
  • Personalised care plans and individual risk assessments give staff clear guidance on people's needs, including mobility, falls and behaviour.
  • Incidents and accidents are investigated and trends are analysed, with action taken to prevent them happening again.
  • People have a choice of nutritious, freshly prepared meals and a varied programme of social activities, and feedback from people, relatives and staff is gathered and considered.
Areas to improve
  • Inspectors could not be assured that people always received their medicines as prescribed, and the current audit system did not reliably identify medicines errors.
  • Assessment and monitoring need strengthening where medicines are given covertly and where people are at risk of losing weight.
  • Planning and monitoring for people cared for in bed need to ensure they have social stimulation and are not at risk of isolation.
