About
Joseph Lodge is a care home in a rural setting just beyond the edge of Southend-on-Sea, Essex. It provides personal care for older adults with age-related needs, including people living with dementia. The home has 39 bedrooms across its ground and first floors, several of them larger rooms. A lift serves the first floor, and every bedroom has its own ensuite.
Residents recently took part in a hatching project, in which seven fertilised eggs and an incubator were brought into the home. Residents followed each stage, learned about the life cycle of chicks, and saw four chicks hatch. They then chose the birds' names by drawing suggestions from a hat: Henrietta, Chicken Nugget, Paxo and Chucky. The Care Quality Commission rated the home Good overall in its 2025 report, and graded all five key questions Good.
