What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 22 June 2022 · Last inspected 20 April 2022

Inspectors found that Hollybank, a care home for up to 49 older people, including some living with dementia, offered a welcoming atmosphere in which people appeared content and had a good rapport with staff. Staff were described as knowledgeable about individual needs, interactions were respectful, and people were supported to make their own choices, while the home itself was spacious, clean and well maintained. The report also raised concerns about quality monitoring systems and recruitment checks, which led to the overall rating falling from good to requires improvement.

Strengths noted
  • Staff showed a good understanding of people's individual needs and wishes, and interactions were respectful and caring
  • People were happy living there and were supported to make their own routines and choices
  • Staffing levels were good and staff felt supported and worked well as a team
  • The accommodation was spacious, clean and well maintained, with servicing checks carried out
Areas to improve
  • Quality monitoring audits did not identify the shortfalls found, and action on earlier shortfalls was not always taken
  • Not all required checks were completed before new staff started employment
  • Some gas safety and profiling bed checks were still being addressed at the time of inspection
