What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 27 August 2021 · Last inspected 15 July 2021

Inspectors found that staff treated people with kindness and respect, and that the home was clean, well maintained and suitable for people living with dementia. Medication, wound care and pressure area care were well managed, and staff had been recruited safely and trained for their roles. However, the report found that some care records were incomplete and that many staff did not feel supported by management.

Strengths noted
  • Medication was well managed, with clear protocols for people who take medicines as needed.
  • Staff were recruited safely and had completed mandatory training and induction.
  • The home was clean, well maintained and had infection control arrangements in place, with staff using protective equipment appropriately.
  • Relatives described staff as kind and caring, and inspectors saw staff treating people with respect and courtesy.
Areas to improve
  • Some care records were not completed accurately, and food and fluid charts did not record how much people had eaten or drunk, which put some people at risk. The provider has since reorganised these charts.
  • Some people had bedrails in place without appropriate risk assessments, and some assessments of people's ability to make decisions were not clear, so people were not always supported in the least restrictive way.
  • Most staff spoken with felt unsupported, and some said management did not always act on issues, which affected morale and the care they gave. Quality assurance checks also missed issues that inspectors identified.
