What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 24 January 2024 · Last inspected 5 December 2023

Inspectors heard that people were positive about the care and support they received, and the home was found clean and well kept. People were encouraged to take part in daily life and keep in touch with loved ones, and visits from local schools and community groups were valued. However, inspectors found that management systems were not clearly aligned with the home's stated aims and that some processes were applied inconsistently.

Strengths noted
  • Visits from local schools and community members gave people contact across generations, which they appreciated.
  • People were supported to stay involved in home life and to keep in touch with family and friends.
  • People and relatives felt people were safe, and staff knew how to recognise and report abuse.
  • Working relationships with visiting professionals, including GPs, were identified as a strength.
Areas to improve
  • Governance arrangements were not fully effective, and systems did not consistently support the home's goals, including smooth transitions of care from hospital.
  • The risk management framework was inconsistently applied, and audits did not always identify shortfalls. Incident reporting was not fully used, and underlying causes were not always considered.
  • Communication needed to improve so that care was more joined up.
