What inspectors found
CQC: Requires improvementReport published 12 August 2021 · Last inspected 7 July 2021
Duncote Hall is a residential care home for up to 40 older people, including people living with dementia. Inspectors found that people were supported by recruited and trained staff, who were described as considerate and familiar with individual needs, and that people had choice over meals and drinks and were involved in planning their care. Inspectors noted that some oversight systems still needed to be embedded, and that some weekend activities and response times needed attention.
- People were described as being treated with kindness, and their privacy, dignity and independence were respected.
- Most unexplained injuries were investigated and recorded appropriately, and people received their medicines safely from trained staff.
- People had a choice of meals and drinks, their preferences and communication needs were recorded, and staff worked with other professionals such as speech and language therapists and GPs.
- The provider had made improvements since the last inspection, is no longer in breach of regulations, and the service is no longer in special measures.
- Not all prescribed medicines were recorded appropriately, although inspectors found no evidence of harm to people.
- People told inspectors that activities were not offered at weekends.
- Staff were at times slower to respond to people's needs than expected, and the improved oversight systems still needed to be fully embedded and reviewed.
