What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 14 June 2021 · Last inspected 29 April 2021

Inspectors visited Comfort Call Liverpool's extra care schemes in Liverpool in April 2021 as part of a focused review of safety, effectiveness and leadership. Most people reported that staff responded quickly and visited on time, and feedback from people and families was positive. Medicines support, infection control, safe recruitment and partnership working with housing and safeguarding teams were found to be in place, and staff received training and supervision.

Strengths noted
  • People were supported to take their prescribed medication
  • Incidents were recorded and lessons were learnt to prevent repeats
  • Staff had suitable protective equipment and infection control and COVID-19 training
  • The regional manager was open with inspectors and has begun making improvements
Areas to improve
  • Some risk assessments were inaccurate or out of date, and risks were not always monitored, which placed people at risk of unsafe care
  • Health and wellbeing monitoring was weakened by incomplete records, daily logs and staff communication
  • Governance checks were not robust enough to catch these problems, and some staff felt scheme manager turnover was too high
