What inspectors found

CQC: Good

Report published 6 April 2023 · Last inspected 7 March 2023

Inspectors found that people and relatives felt safe using the home, that staff knew how to recognise and report abuse, and that infection control was followed, with regular cleaning seen during the visit. There was a positive culture, and staff described the manager as approachable and open to concerns. Inspectors also found that risk management and medicines recording needed improvement, although the registered manager acted quickly on the issues raised.

Strengths noted
  • Staff were recruited safely, and people and relatives said they felt safe.
  • Staff knew how to recognise signs of abuse and where to report concerns, and the registered manager referred concerns to the local authority safeguarding team.
  • Cleaning was regular and relatives felt the home was clean.
  • Staff and relatives spoke highly of the management team, and the service was open and transparent, with notifications sent to the CQC and duty of candour followed.
Areas to improve
  • Risk assessments, including for people with conditions such as diabetes, were not detailed enough or always up to date to guide staff.
  • Records for medicines given as needed did not show why they were given or whether they worked, and protocols were not in place for all of them. Medicines were being given as prescribed by the time of the visit.
  • Lessons were not always learnt after incidents, because patterns and trends in accidents and falls were not reviewed.
