What inspectors found
CQC: Requires improvementReport published 18 March 2022 · Last inspected 23 February 2022
Inspectors visited The Gateway Care Home in February 2022 as a focused follow-up to an earlier inadequate rating, checking the Safe and Well-led areas. Improvements were found in areas such as managing risk, staff recruitment and training, and care records, and people spoke warmly about the kindness of staff and the care their relatives receive. A new registered manager is in post and people reported confidence in them, with the service now rated as requiring improvement overall and no longer in special measures.
- People and relatives described staff as kind, caring and skilled at supporting them, including with equipment for bathing.
- Risk assessments are in place to help staff manage identified risks, and staff know how to respond to allegations of abuse.
- Health care and nutrition needs are well managed, and infection control systems are in place.
- Staff are recruited safely, trained, feel supported, and people reported there are enough staff without long waits for help.
- Medicines management had improved but inspectors said some further improvements were still needed and made a recommendation.
- Care records did not always show that people had been involved in decisions about their own care.
