What inspectors found

CQC: Good

Report published 1 July 2019 · Last inspected 22 May 2019

Butterfly Lodge cares for older people living with dementia and/or mental health needs, registered for 38 people. Inspectors found that people felt safe, were treated kindly and respectfully, and lived in a clean, odour-free environment, with staff recruited safely and trained to meet people's needs. Since the last inspection, a new manager and operations manager have been in post.

Strengths noted
  • People, relatives and staff spoke positively about the new manager and the changes in the service's culture since their appointment.
  • People now receive their medicines safely, and the management of risks linked to their care has improved.
  • Staff have a better understanding of safeguarding procedures than at the previous inspection, and the building has been assessed for safety.
  • Complaints are welcomed by people, who feel confident raising them, and are used to improve the service.
Areas to improve
  • The accuracy of people's records has improved, but the manager acknowledged their own limits in this task and expects additional experienced nursing staff to help.
  • Dignity and respect training should better cover the care of people who choose to spend time in their own rooms, and people's personal care.
  • The provider should consider the Accessible Information Standard when producing policies and procedures, and continue strengthening its governance framework.
