What inspectors found
CQC: Requires improvementReport published 25 May 2022 · Last inspected 28 April 2022
People using the service and their relatives were generally positive about everyday care, and reported better staffing and communication than before. Inspectors found that risks to people were identified and managed, and that staff were recruited, trained and supervised appropriately. Some inconsistency from agency use, limited access to activities and infection control practice remained areas of concern.
- Staff were aware of people's individual risks and how to support them, and systems were in place to safeguard people.
- The provider actively recruited staff to provide more consistent care, and staffing levels had improved.
- People were supported to make choices and keep control of their lives, with care delivered in the least restrictive way and in their best interests.
- Records and auditing had improved, and monitoring allowed the provider to identify shortfalls. The service was no longer in breach of regulations and was no longer rated inadequate.
- Infection control practices observed did not always reduce the risk of cross infection, and inspectors made a recommendation to improve them.
- Staff meeting minutes and communication with relatives suggested that negative feedback was not encouraged, which inspectors said does not support an open and honest culture; a recommendation was made.
- Inspectors recommended better application of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, so that capacity assessments and best interest decisions are consistently referred to when care is delivered.
