What inspectors found

CQC: Good

Report published 20 February 2020 · Last inspected 30 January 2020

Inspectors found Broadview, a residential home for up to eight younger and older adults with learning disabilities or physical and sensory impairments, to be providing good everyday care. People were kept safe with individual risk assessments, staff were trained and enough in number, and medicines, infection control and healthy eating were all handled well. Relatives described staff as caring and skilled, and the home was praised for encouraging independence and a varied social life.

Strengths noted
  • Staff knew people's risks well and supported them to be as independent as possible
  • Training, staffing levels and recruitment were considered adequate for people's needs
  • Positive, caring relationships between staff and the people they support, with relatives involved in planning
  • Good quality assurance, with the management team seen as clear and well regarded by relatives
Areas to improve
  • The service has six or more people, which is larger than current best practice guidance, although inspectors said the building design limits the impact
  • The registered manager was not familiar with the published good-practice guidance, though the service applied its principles
