Inspectors found staff to be patient, caring and responsive, with a good knowledge of the people they support, and people said they were happy with their care. Staff were trained to recognise and report safeguarding concerns, and risks were well managed. The report also raised concerns about consent, medicines management and governance, and the building needs updating.

Strengths noted
  • Inspectors observed staff being patient, caring and responsive, and said they knew people well.
  • People said they were happy with their care and that they could raise concerns and be listened to.
  • Staff had training on safeguarding, risks to people were well managed, and required health and safety checks were completed.
  • Staffing levels were sufficient, safe recruitment systems were in place, and people were positive about the food and their access to health care.
Areas to improve
  • Some records for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards authorisations were not up to date, and staff could not say which people had them in place.
  • Medicines were not always managed safely, and the provider could not be assured it was meeting Mental Capacity Act requirements.
  • Systems for auditing, monitoring and improving the quality and safety of the service needed further development, and parts of the building need updating.
