What inspectors found

CQC: Good

Report published 1 October 2020 · Last inspected 11 September 2020

Inspectors visiting in September 2020 found that people at this care home, most of whom live with dementia or frailty, said they felt at ease and were looked after well by staff. Most staff said there were enough people on duty, though some felt afternoons could use more support, and staff noted that keeping people occupied during the day was sometimes difficult. An activities worker had recently been appointed to address this.

Strengths noted
  • Medicines were now managed safely and given as prescribed, which addressed a concern from the previous inspection.
  • Hot water outlets had thermostatic valves that are checked monthly, with adjustments made where temperatures changed, to reduce the risk of scalds.
  • Regular, thorough quality audits were in place, overseen by the provider's quality manager and by visits from the directors, with on-site visits resuming after earlier remote checks.
  • Recruitment checks ensured only suitable staff were employed, and infection control, protective equipment and visitor screening measures were in place.
Areas to improve
  • Some staff felt extra staffing in the afternoons would help, and some found it hard at times to keep people entertained through the day.
  • Several safeguarding alerts had been raised since the previous inspection; the provider and registered manager were reviewing the lessons learnt.
  • Inspectors recommended that staff use surgical masks correctly at all times.
