What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 15 December 2021 · Last inspected 5 November 2021

Inspectors found that people were comfortable with staff, who spent time talking with them and supported them when they became distressed. People said they felt safe, and staff understood how to recognise abuse and report concerns. The service remains rated requires improvement, mainly because of gaps in infection prevention and risk management.

Strengths noted
  • People said they were content with the care they received and felt safe living at the home.
  • Staff were comfortable with people, chatted with them and supported them during periods of distress.
  • Staff understood abuse and knew the correct steps to take if they had concerns about someone's safety.
  • Medicines were given as prescribed, and staff had clear guidance on how each person preferred to take them.
Areas to improve
  • Infection prevention needed improvement: COVID-19 weekly testing was not always done in line with guidance, some areas were not kept clean, and PPE use was inconsistent.
  • Risks, including choking and weight monitoring, were not always fully assessed, monitored or reviewed.
  • Some key risk information in people's care records was not accurate, and a moderate volume of agency staff was used while permanent recruitment continued.
