What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 19 April 2022 · Last inspected 8 February 2022

Inspectors found that people and their families felt the home was a good place to live and that they were safe there. Staff understood how to protect people from harm, had received suitable training, and there were enough of them on duty; people, relatives and staff spoke well of the manager and the home's culture. However, inspectors found gaps in cleanliness, infection control and environmental safety that the home's own checks had not picked up.

Strengths noted
  • Residents and their families described the care as good and said they felt safe.
  • Staff knew their safeguarding responsibilities and had completed appropriate training.
  • Medicines were handled safely, and staffing levels were judged sufficient for residents' needs.
  • Feedback was sought from residents, families and staff, and the manager and the home's atmosphere were regarded positively.
Areas to improve
  • The home was not sufficiently clean, and some staff did not use protective equipment correctly, which increased infection risk.
  • Systems for monitoring environmental and infection risks were not robust enough, and exposed hot water pipes presented a scalding risk to people.
  • Not all events that the provider must report to the regulator were notified; the provider has since revised its quality monitoring.
