How long would a home’s equity fund care?

One of the first questions families ask is how far the money from the house would actually stretch. Enter a postcode and we’ll estimate how many years the equity could pay for residential or nursing care in that area — and the things, like a Deferred Payment Agreement, that often mean the home doesn’t have to be sold.

e.g. LE10 1AA or just LE10.

Behind the estimate

How it’s worked out

1

Local property values

We use recent Land Registry sold prices for the postcode where we have enough, and ONS/UK House Price Index figures elsewhere — by property type.

2

Your council’s care fees

Each area is matched to its adult-social-care authority and that council’s published “usual cost of care” for residential and nursing homes.

3

A week-by-week simulation

We run the means test — the 12-week disregard, capital limits, State Pension, Attendance Allowance and FNC — to the point where council support begins.

It’s a guide to plan around, not financial advice or a decision by any council. For the full funding picture — the means test and what you can claim — use the care funding calculator.
