What inspectors found

CQC: Requires improvement

Report published 16 August 2023 · Last inspected 13 July 2023

Inspectors found that staff knew people and their needs well, and that people and relatives were complimentary about staff and felt communication with the home was good. Support for people's health, nutrition and medicines was generally in place, and a newly appointed activities coordinator was starting to build a range of activities inside the home and in the local community.

Strengths noted
  • Relationships with the local authority, commissioning and NHS teams had improved significantly, including through a joint audit pilot that all parties described as working well.
  • There were enough staff to meet people's needs, and staff received the training they needed and felt well supported by management.
  • People received their medicines as prescribed, the home was clean throughout, and people were supported with their health, nutrition and referrals to medical professionals.
  • An electronic quality assurance system is now in place, with regular audits and actions identified, and actions from the earlier pilot visits have been completed or are in progress.
Areas to improve
  • The home could not evidence the safe recruitment of staff, as references were not in place or requested and checked, which led to a breach of regulations.
  • People's capacity to make decisions was assessed on admission but was not regularly reviewed, so people were not always supported to have maximum choice and control.
  • Guidance for when 'as required' medicines should be given needed to be more personalised to each person.
